Hoy quiero presentaros al diseñador gallego Franco Quintáns,toda una referencia en el mundo del diseño nupcial y de fiesta en España. Sus vestidos elegantes y sofisticados no os dejarán indiferentes.

Today I want to introduce the Galician designer Franco Quintáns, a reference in the world of the bridal and party design in Spain. His elegant and sophisticated dresses will not leave you indifferent.

Desde que en 1995 presentó su primera colección en Galicia, lleva trabajando como modisto en su propio firma FRANCO QUINTÁNS.Durante dos años (2009-2010) fue el Director Creativo de la firma de Moda Nupcial y de Fiesta ModelNovias, desfilando en prestigiosas pasarelas como Gaudí Novias en Barcelona, New York , Milán y París.

Since 1995 he presented his first collection in Galicia,he has been working as a designer in his own brand FRANCO QUINTÁNS.During two years (2009-2010) was the Creative Director of the brand ModelNovias, parading in prestigious catwalks as Gaudí Brides in Barcelona, New York, Milan and Paris.

Sus diseños han sido presentados en Cibeles Madrid (Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Madrid), la pasarela más importante a nivel nacional.Además Franco Quintáns ha colaborado con grandes firmas como MontBlanc, Hermès, Don Pérignon, la revista Marie Claire y la cadena Fox.

His designs have been presented in Madrid Cibeles (Madrid Fashion Week Mercedes Benz), the most important national parade.Moreover Franco Quintáns has collaborated with big brands like MontBlanc, Hermès, Don Perignon, the magazine Marie Claire and the Fox channel.

Como anécdota contaros que diseño en exclusiva un traje de novia para la marca Cadelín de Patricia Forján, enfocado a la moda nupcial canina, que desfiló en la Pet Fashion Week de New York en 2008.

Anecdotally I tell you that he create an exclusively wedding dress for the brand Cadelín of Patricia Forján, bridal fashion focused canine, which paraded in the Pet Fashion Week of New York in 2008.

-¿Cómo recuerdas tus comienzos?

Con la misma ilusión que ahora cuando creo una nueva colección pero sin tantos problemas. Por aquella, era un sueño que se ha hecho realidad y que tiene que seguir creciendo.

- How do you remember your beginnings?
With the same enthusiasm that now when I create a new collection but without many problems. At that time, it was a dream come true and it has to go growing.

-¿Que impulsa tus diseños?/¿qué emociones y necesidades son las que guían tus diseños?

Me emociona todo lo bonito, lo bello, lo esteticamente elegante desde mi punto de vista, intentando no rozar lo cursi ni lo vanal, que a veces, haciendo vestidos de novia y fiesta, puede ser complicado no caer en ello. Me impulsa la necesidad de embellecer a la mujer dándole un toque de originalidad, exclusividad y a veces de locura.

-What are the emotions and needs that guide your designs?

I love all the beautiful, the beautiful, the elegant aesthetically from my point of view, trying not border the banal or kitsch, sometimes, making Wedding and party dresses,it can be complicated not to fall into it. Driving me the need to embellish the woman giving a touch of originality, exclusivity and sometimes madness.

-¿Qué o quién ha influenciado de forma significativa tu carrera?

Empecé de pequeño fijándome en mi madre que es modista y bordadora y mi padre siempre me ha ayudado a impulsar mi faceta creativa, apuntándome a cursos de dibujo, pintura, manualidades...y fue en el instituto, cuando el director Miguel Ángel González Estévez, viendo que sobresalía en el dibujo, me animó a crear unos diseños para representar al centro en una pasarela gallega. Eso despertó mi interés por el mundo de la moda y fueron mis compañeras de instituto mis primeras "víctimas" con
las que experimenté mis creaciones. Y ya,cuando empecé a estudiar Diseño y Moda en Goymar (Vigo), descubrí al que para mi es uno de los grandes creadores de la Alta Costura, Christian Lacroix, con el que humildemente comparto el gusto por las prendas tradicionales populares y el siglo XVIII.

- Who or what has influenced your career significantly?

When i was a child, I started noticing in my mother who is a dressmaker and embroiderer, and my father always helped me to flow my creative side,he signed me up in drawing courses,painting, crafts ... and it was in high school, when the director Miguel Ángel González Estévez saw what i projected in the drawing, encouraged me to create some designs for representing the school in a Galician Parade. That aroused my interest in the world of fashion and my classmates of the high school were my first "victims" with whom I experienced my first creations.And, when I started studying Fashion Design in Goymar (Vigo), I discovered that for me is one of the great artists of the High Couture, Christian Lacroix, with who I humbly share the taste for popular traditional garments and XVIII century.

-Dices que viajar y ver otras ciudades y culturas es muy importante para encontrar inspiración.¿Cuál es la ciudad que consideras más inspiradora?

Yo creo que todas las ciudades, todos los pueblos, todos los países, son fuentes inspiradoras inagotables, pero a mi lo que mas me interesa, son las culturas populares, las tradiciones y costumbres de los pueblos, y claro está, sus vestimentas y me gusta investigar todas estas características y extrapolarlas el presente y adaptarlas a las prendas que creo. Me gusta que mis colecciones cuenten una historia basada en una tradición, en un personaje, en un pasado, porque soy de los que pienso en que no se puede mirar al futuro sin conocer el pasado.

-You say that travel and see other cities and cultures is very important to find inspiration. Which city is the most inspiring?

I think every city, every nation, every country, are inexhaustible sources of inspiration,but i am more interested in popular cultures, traditions and customs of the people, and of course, their clothes and I like to research all these features and extrapolate this and adapt to the clothes which I design. I like that my collections tell a story based on a tradition, a character in the past, because I am of those who think that you can't look to the future without knowing the past.

-¿Cuál es la razón por la que diriges tu trabajo a diseños de novia y fiesta?

Me gusta el oficio de modistería,los bordados artesanales con hilos, cristales, plumas...lo hecho a mano y cuando puedo, lo único y exclusivo. Crear prendas especiales para personas y momentos especiales.

- Why you direct your work and designs to the wedding and party design?
I like the trade of dressmaking, embroidery thread and craft, crystals, feathers ... the handmade and when I can, the unique and exclusive. Create special garments for people and special moments.

-¿Recuerdas la primera pieza que creaste?

Si, claro!!! Fue un corpiño con el delantero hecho de pachtwork con trozos de tejidos de seda en mil colores y bordados en cristal en las uniones, para mi hermana, para una Nochevieja. Lo llevaba sobre un body de cuello alto y mangas de terciopelo negro y con un pantalón ancho con caída. Todavía lo conserva...

- Do you remember the first piece you created?

Yeah, right! It was a bodice with striker fact pachtwork with bits of silk fabrics in many colors and crystal embroidery at the joints, for my sister, for a New Year's Eve. She wore over a turtleneck bodysuit and black velvet sleeves and wide trousers with fall. She still have it...

-¿Qué se siente al ver desfilar tus diseños en pasarelas como Cibeles (Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Madrid)?

Emoción!!! Es el broche final a un trabajo de equipo en el que todos aportan su granito de arena, he de reconocer que siempre me emociono...

- How does it feel to see your designs paraded on runways as Cibeles (Madrid Fashion Week Mercedes Benz)?

Excitement! It is the finishing touch to a team effort in which all contribute their bit, I must admit that I always get excited ...

- Para una boda...
Naturalidad.

- For a wedding ...
Naturalness.

- Si no hubieses sido diseñador ¿qué te hubiese gustado ser?

Cirujano. Lo de cortar y coser está siempre presente...jejeje...

- If you had not been a designer what would you have liked to be?
Surgeon. The cutting and sewing is always present ... hehehe ...

-En tus creaciones suelen aparecer elementos de tu tierra, como el encaje de camariñas o el uso de una Regeifa en forma de tocado (un bollo de pan dulce con el que tradicionalmente bailaban en algunas zonas de Galicia). ¿qué te llevo a ello?¿Que importancia tiene reflejar en tus trabajos una característica del diseño de tu tierra?

Con quince años formé parte de una agrupación cultural donde hacíamos un trabajo de campo etnográfico, recogiendo de las personas mayores las cancione, los bailes, la tradición oral y por supuesto, el vestuario. Esto me ayudó a descubrir la riqueza de la vestimenta tradicional gallega y sus características, dependiendo de la zona o comarca, en sus cortes de prendas, tejidos, bordados, complementos; y que luego, esa necesidad de descubrir y conocer nuestras raíces me llevó a investigar en otras regiones españolas, otras culturas, otros países...

La Regueifa es una tradición típica en A Costa da Morte que puse sobre una pasarela internacional como es Gaudí Novias y que causó gran expectación, aunque en este caso, el bollo de pan dulce que era de verdad, iba adornado con flores de organza de seda y cristal de Swarovski. Y desde que en 1995 presenté mi primera colección en la Mostra do Encaixe de Camariñas, todos los años creo alguna prenda con encaje de Camariñas.

-In your creations show up your land elements like camariñas lace or use a headdress shaped Regeifa (a sweet bread which was used traditionally to dance in parts of Galicia). What led you to that? How important is reflect a characteristic of your land in your design work?

At fifteen I was part of a cultural group which did ethnographic field work, gathering of people over the Songs Lyrics, dances, oral tradition and of course, costumes. This helped me to discover the richness of traditional dress Galician and characteristics, depending on the area or district, in their courts of garments, fabrics, embroideries, accessories, and then, the need to discover and know our roots led me to investigate in other Spanish regions, other cultures, other countries ...

The Regueifa is a typical tradition in the Costa da Morte I put on an international runaway as Gaudí Brides and caused great excitement, although in this case, the sweet bread that was real,it was adorned with silk organza flowers and Swarovski crystal. And since 1995, I presented my first collection in Mostra do Encaixe in Camariñas, every year I design some Camariñas lace garment

- ¿Como es tu colección de novias para el 2013?

Es una colección fresca, para una novia actual, moderna y elegante, sin perder el toque de costura, con manipulaciones textiles artesanales y bordados.

- How is your bridal collection for 2013?
It's a cool collection, for a current bride, modern and elegant, without losing touch of sewing, embroidery and crafts textile manipulations.

-¿Dónde podemos adquirir tus prendas?

Tenemos puntos de venta de las colecciones en Cataluña, Comunidad Valenciana, Zaragoza y Galicia. El objetivo para este año es abrir en Madrid y algún punto en el sur, siempre en tiendas multimarcas con personalidad que busquen diferenciarse de las demás. Estamos negociando para cruzar el charco, pero poco a poco. Además ofrecemos el servicio de modisteria a medida y con diseños exclusivos poniéndose directamente en contacto conmigo.

- Where can we buy your clothes?

In Catalonia, Valencia, Zaragoza and Galicia. The goal for this year is to open in Madrid and one point in the south multibrand stores always seeking personality differentiate themselves. We are negotiating to open stores abroad, but slowly. We also offer the exclusive service of custom dressmaking and designs directly contacting me.

-Y para terminar, ¿Un sueño por realizar?

Tranquilidad profesional. Tengo la suerte de que llevo mas de veinte años trabajando en lo que realmente es mi pasión, la moda, pero estamos pasando unos momentos

muy difíciles...

-And finally, A dream to be done?

Tranquility professional. I have the luck that took more than twenty years working on what really is my passion, fashion, but we are having a very difficult moment ...
