Hoy quiero que conozcáis al prestigioso diseñador catalán Toni Francesc, un hombre que ve la moda como un arte y una forma de vida.Tuve el placer de conocerlo personalmente este año en la Inauguración del espacio Hipotenûsa en Vigo, y para mí es todo un honor poder mostrar su fascinante trayectoria.
Today I want to introduce you the renowned Catalan designer Toni Francesc, a man who sees fashion as an art and a way of life.I had the pleasure to meet him this year at the Inauguration of space Hipotenûsa in Vigo, and for me it is an honor to show his fascinating career.
A man who seemed to have a target drawn on the design world. Toni grew up surrounded by fabrics and patchwork in the sewing workshop of her mother. Currently showing their collections at Fashion Week in New York and Mexico, and also in the 080 in Barcelona. He has lectured on fashion and business management in some Mexican universities and has also participated in a panel discussion in collaboration with the Chamber of Commerce-USA and Spain Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) in New York.
-¿Quién es Toni Francesc?
Una persona normal que ama su trabajo y le dedica todo el tiempo que puede.
-Who is Toni Francesc?
A normal person who loves his work and he is dedicated to it all the time that he can.
-¿Cuándo y como arrancó tu interés por el diseño?
Ya desde pequeño viví en un ambiente rodeado de tejidos, patrones, alfileres, jaboncillos …
También me gustaba dibujar, coser botones, pasar puntos flojos. Fue algo que nunca pensé y acabé estudiando diseño y dedicándome a esto.
- When and how did start your interest in design?
Since my childhood I lived surrounded by fabrics, patterns, pins, soaps ...
I also liked drawing, sewing buttons, go weak points. It was something I never thought and I ended up studying design and dedicate myself to this.

-¿Qué es para ti la moda?
Para mi lo es todo, mi forma de vivir y mi pasión. Es como un hijo o una madre.
- What is fashion for you?
For me it's all, my lifestyle and my passion. It's like a daughter or a mother.
No hay una singularidad, en la moda no puede haberla. Cada diseñador es un mundo y al mismo tiempo proponemos cada uno tendencia pero no hay dos iguales.
- From your point of view what lies the uniqueness of Spanish fashion?
There isn’t a singularity, in fashion there can not be. Every designer is different and at the same time we offer each trend but no two are alike.
Elegante, femenino, estructurado, doy mucha importancia al patrón a la forma y a los volúmenes, sencillo a la vista pero complejo en su desarrollo.
- How would you define your style?
Elegant, feminine, structured to give much importance to the shape and pattern volumes, sight simple but complex in its development.
A mi me inspira las cosas más sencillas, el ser humano, su comportamiento, la naturaleza, los elementos naturales. Cualquier escena vivida o imaginada.
-How do you usually get inspired for your collections?
I am really inspired by the simplest things, human beings, their behavior, nature, natural elements. Any scene lived or imagined.
-¿Como nace una colección?
Buscas un tema que te sientas atraído, investigas, marcas las líneas de desarrollo, haces la estructura de la colección, dibujas, buscas tejidos apropiados, haces patrones o modelas, luego pasas a la muestra, rectificas hasta que la acabas y así sucesivamente hasta que cierras la colección y la tienes acabada.
-how do you create a collection?
Looking for a topic that you are attracted, investigate, marked development lines, make the structure of the collection, drawing, looking appropriate tissues, do patterns or pinup, then pass to the show, until just makes straight and so on until close the collection and have finished.
Sí, en todas las colecciones pretendo contar alguna cosa. Las historias nos ayudan a todos a entender mejor el mundo que nos rodea, en mis colecciones siempre están envueltas en un guion que me gusta marcar desde el inicio hasta el final, para mí es como un libro o una película.
- In your parades..Do you tell a story?
Yes, in every collection I pretend to tell something. Stories help us to understand the world around us, in my collections are always wrapped in a script that I like to score from the beginning to the end, for me is like a book or a movie.

-¿Como definirías la diferencia entre moda y estilo?
El estilo es eterno y la moda es efímera.
- How would you define the difference between fashion and style?
Style is timeless and fashion is ephemeral.
Femenina, elegante, bella por dentro sencilla por fuera y natural
- How is the Toni Francesc's woman?
Feminine, elegant, beautiful inside, out simple and natural.
-En una industria dónde cada día surgen nuevos diseñadores ¿cuál es la contribución de Toni Francesc al mundo de la moda?
Me siento diferente en muchas cosas pero sobre todo destacaría en la manera de tratar el patrón y el tejido, creo que no hay dos diseñadores iguales, igual que tampoco hay dos personas iguales.
-In an industry where every day there are new designers. what is the contribution of Toni Francesc to the fashion world?
I feel different in many things but mainly i emphasize on how to deal with the pattern and fabric, I think that there aren't two designers alike, just as there aren't two persons alike.
- La colección primavera- Verano 2010 "Water's mood" presentada en New York Fashion Week rindió homenaje al agua en todas sus variantes.¡Fue muy impactante! ya que la música de fondo eran gotas de agua.Háblame sobre ello ¿ cuidas mucho la puesta en escena en tus desfiles?
Intento cuidarlo todo, el contenido es tan importante como la esencia, un desfile es una puesta en escena y no te puedes olvidar de nada y cuidar todos los detalles aunque a veces, parecen insignificantes. Tengo que hacer sentir a los que asisten al evento, como si ellos fueran los protagonistas de mi historia e integrarlos de lleno como si de una obra de teatro se tratara.Aunque la esencia es la colección y tiene que estar por encima de todo ( es el guión) si no sería como jugar al despiste con todos.
En mi desfile de “Water’s mood” el tema no solo era el agua sino que quería poéticamente decir que el agua puede sentir comolos seres humanos ya que somos un 70% de agua. Entonces hice unos paralelismos con el ser humano y los estados naturales del agua, no científicos pero sí filosóficos, como el agua estancada, el agua que fluye etc… y en la puesta en escena también utilicé esos mismos argumentos con un video y música muy relacionada con el tema hasta el punto de ser parte del mismo. Como el sonido del goteo de agua se confundía con los pasos de la modelos.
- The Spring-Summer 2010 "Water's Mood" collection presented at New York Fashion Week paid tribute to water in all its variants.it Was very shocking! as background music were drops water .Tell me… Do you care about that much for your staging parades?
I try to take care of everything, the content is as important as the essence, a parade is a staging and you can not forget anything and take care of all the details although sometimes,it seems insignificant. I have to convey to the audience that they are the protagonists of my story and integrate them fully as it was a play.Although the focus is the collection and has to be above all (the script), but it would be like playing cluelessness.
In my parade of "Water's Mood" was the theme not only water but poetically wanted to say that water can feel like human beings because we are 70% water.Then I did some parallels with the human and natural state of water, not scientific but philosophical, as stagnant water, flowing water etc ... and in the staging also used those same arguments with a closely related and music video the issue to the point of being part of it. As the sound of dripping water mingled with the steps in the models.
-¿Qué puedes contarnos de tu colección para el otoño invierno 2012/2013 "Aeternus" ? ¿A qué se debe el nombre?
El nombre se debe a los recuerdos de mi abuela, en especial y a todos los abuelos del mundo que nos contaban historias de su juventud, así nació mi colección “Aeternus” lo que nunca olvidaremos y siempre estará en nuestro recuerdo. Y entonces escribí unas líneas que fueron la esencia de la colección.

Recuerdos de niñez que aparecen y se desvanecen sutilmente.Memorias que quedan dentro de uno para siempre".
-What can you tell us about your collection for Fall Winter 2012/2013 "Aeternus"? Why this name?
The name comes from the memories of my grandmother, especially grandparents and all the world who told us stories of his youth, thus was born my collection "Aeternus" what will never forget and that will always be in our memories. And then I wrote some lines that were the essence of the collection.
"A reflection of light where before there was an eternal darkness.

La elegancia es lo que lleva uno dentro o no y el estilo para mí es la manera de presentarlo externamente.
- What is the elegance and the style for you?
The elegance is what leads one inside or not , and style for me is the way to present it externally.
- ¿Hay algún proyecto o plan futuro que te gustaría compartir con nosotros?
La apertura en Nueva York para finales de septiembre de un espacio para las dos marcas que llevo, Veneno en la piel y Toni Francesc en Trinity Place.
The opening in New York to the end of September of a space for the two brands which I manage, “Veneno en la Piel “and “Toni Francesc " in Trinity Place.
